The Franciscan Sisters of Chicago

Community Life

As Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, we live the gospel ideal that God is our Father, Christ is our Brother, and that we ourselves are sisters to one another in the Spirit. We are aware that unity, not uniformity, in the pursuit of our life and mission makes our congregation a "Gospel Community".  As daughters of St. Francis, we love, honor, serve, bless, and glorify God through ceaseless praise and thanksgiving for all creation and for our re-creation in Jesus Christ.

In 2011, the City of Chicago renamed a street after Mother Mary
Theresa Dudzik, the foundress of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago.

Charism Statement

"I felt the misery and suffering of others, and it seemed to me that I could not love Jesus, or even expect heaven if I were concerned only about myself. . . Consequently, I was constantly occupied with the thought of how I could be of service to the needy and the poor."

— Mother Mary Theresa Dudzik, Foundress of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago
